NATURE WALKHosted by Child of the Wild Join the us this Spring for relaxed, family-friendly Nature Walks with Child of the Wild, a local Mobile organization dedicated to helping children and families reconnect with the outdoors through exploration, play, and curiosity. Along the way, children and families will have the opportunity to:* Explore the plants, animals, and habitats around us* Engage in unstructured nature play* Follow curiosity wherever it leads* Connect with other families who love spending time outdoorsThese walks are relaxed and welcoming—less of a structured hike and more of a chance to slow down, notice the natural world, and let kids be kids outside. Thunderstorm/Lightning or other Severe Weather cancels event This location has a playground, picnic tables, pavilions, exercise equipment, splash pad, and a creek plus restrooms and also lots of green space with trees. Please RSVP to let us know you’ll be there. Spring DatesWednesdays • 5:00p–6:00(ish)p* April 1* April 29* May 27We will Gather Round and hit the trail at 5:10p. Displayed annually around Memorial Day, the Alabama Poppy Project serves as a powerful visual reminder of honor, service, and community remembrance. William Bartram, America’s most famed naturalist, visited what is now Alabama in the summer and fall of 1775 during a four-year odyssey of discovery through the American South. The landscapes, plants, animals, and people he encountered were truly remarkable, and he was particularly impressed with what he found in the Mobile-Tensaw Delta. In 1791 he published a book, commonly called Travels, that recounts his adventure. Through detailed descriptions and colorful prose, Bartram’s work opens a vibrant window into a world that may seem quite alien to us today, but one which you can glimpse if you’re looking in the right places! During a two-hour cruise along the waters of the tranquil Tensaw River retracing a portion of Bartram’s route and in a short free presentation afterwards, Brian Rushing, a Bartram “enthusiast,” will introduce you to this colorful character. Along the way we’ll discover the wonderful things he saw and experienced while on his journey, and his incredible contributions to biology, history, and literature. Participants will come away with an appreciation for not only Bartram as a scientist and an artist, but of the landscapes and Indigenous People that once existed in what we now call “Alabama.” Adults $26 Kids $19
