Gator Cruise

Join us for an evening adventure into some of the secluded reaches of the lower Delta as we look for alligators and other nocturnal Delta wildlife. Very young children are allowed, but parents need to bring life vests for children under four years of age; the Coast Guard cannot guarantee the boat’s life rings will fit toddlers. Sorry, no pets allowed.

August Living History Crew Drill

August 22 | USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park | 8a-3p

Looking for a family-friendly activity this weekend? Join USS ALABAMA Living History Crew Saturday, August 22nd!⚓

Come see history come to life with our WWII reenactors during their August drill. Interact with historical WWII reenactors aboard the USS ALABAMA and USS DRUM. These historical reenactors, dressed in WWII period Navy uniforms, demonstrate what life aboard ship was like during wartime. They share stories from our original crewmen, conduct weapons briefings, and demonstrate drills while aboard ship. Be sure to grab a spot on the main deck of the USS ALABAMA at 1:00 p.m. when “Call to Battle Stations” is sounded. Enemy aircraft will fly over attacking the ship, and the crewmen will fire back defend her with their guns blazing! Spectators will be able to take in the whole experience while the crew fires the ship’s 20mm and 40mm guns. Planes fly based on mechanics and weather conditions that day. The Deep South Amateur Radio Club will be broadcasting from Radio Central aboard the USS ALABAMA during the drill and welcome visitors to stop by to listen. For all ham radio operators, the call letters are K4DSR and K5LDA broadcasting between 20 and 40.

Cost: The drill is open to the public and included with general admission tickets.

Fall Into Soccer! FREE Soccer Event

Survival Principles for Kids Programming Series

During this special series of programs, children will be introduced to a few of the most basic survival principles that could mean life or death in the unfortunate event they became lost or separated from adults in the outdoors. They will also get a chance to meet some of the specially-trained dogs which assist professional rescue teams in our area in locating lost or injured individuals in wilderness settings. Coastal Tailgate Cook-Off Challenge

Calling all foodies, sports fans, and culinary masters: The Coastal Alabama Business Chamber is excited to announce the return of our Coastal Tailgate Cook-Off Challenge presented by Columbia Southern University. This is not your ordinary cook-off, it’s a high-energy, game day atmosphere where attendees can sample a variety of mouth-watering foods from some of the best culinary teams + individuals around.

Tailgating teams will compete for a coveted golden ticket to the World Food Championships in Indiana and people’s choice awards in several categories. This event will serve as a ​​fundraiser for the CABC Foundation, which supports education efforts in the Coastal Alabama area

Community Safety Day is coming to Downtown OWA on August 22nd, and it’s all about celebrating the people and organizations that keep our community safe and strong! Spend the day meeting local first responders from across the area, watching K-9 training demonstrations, and enjoying a live DJ on OWA Island. Don’t miss the Heroes Hunger Games, where first responders go head-to-head in friendly competition. Join us for a fun, feel-good day for families, friends, and neighbors to come together and show appreciation for the heroes among us! Calling all first responders! Register your department for the Heroes Hunger Games, a fast-paced challenge where teams race to finish a sub sandwich, milkshake, pretzel, and large soda before suiting up in full gear. Stop by the Nature Center between 9:00-9:30 AM  to meet one of our raptors as they soak up the sun and enjoy some fun enrichment activities! This program is great for all ages! Location: Gulf State Park Nature Center, 22120 Campground Road, Gulf Shores. If you have any questions, please contact the Gulf State Park Nature Center at 251-948-7275 extension 62093.

Cost: There is a $5 per-vehicle fee to enter the campground where the Nature Center is located. Campground and cabin guests are exempt from the gate fee.
