OX Kitchen in Fairhope: A Family-Friendly Restaurant Kids & Parents Will Love

Finding a restaurant that works for the whole family isn’t always as easy as it sounds. Parents want good food, kids need something they’ll actually eat, and having a little room for them to move around can make dinner out significantly more enjoyable.

That’s one reason OX Kitchen in Fairhope is a spot local families should have on their radar.

Located on South Greeno Road, OX Kitchen is a locally owned, casual restaurant serving burgers, sandwiches, salads and plenty of options for kids. Even better for families, you’ll find indoor and outdoor seating, an outdoor area with games and entertainment for the kids, and a Kids Eat Free promotion several nights a week.

And the family-friendly atmosphere isn’t an accident. The owners are parents of three children themselves, ages 6, 8 and 11.

A Local, Family-Owned Fairhope Restaurant

OX Kitchen first opened in Fairhope in 2017, with owner and chef Bo Hamilton setting out to create an approachable local restaurant serving simple, quality food without the stuffiness. OX Kitchen describes its style as “New South Casual” — fresh, flavorful food served in a laid-back atmosphere.

The restaurant puts an emphasis on making food in-house. Their smoked turkey and pecan-smoked wings are prepared in-house, along with French fries, sauces, salad dressings and even their pickles.

For local families, though, we especially love that this is a restaurant created by a family that understands what eating out with kids is actually like.

Why Families Will Love OX Kitchen

One of the biggest perks at OX Kitchen is the outdoor space.

Families can choose between indoor and outdoor seating, and the outdoor area includes games and entertainment for kids. That means children have something to do while the family hangs out — always a win when you’re trying to enjoy a more relaxed lunch or dinner.

OX Kitchen’s website also describes the restaurant as family-friendly and confirms both dine-in and outdoor seating options.

For busy nights when eating at the restaurant isn’t in the cards, OX Kitchen also offers carryout and delivery. Catering is available for larger gatherings and events as well.

Kids Eat Free Tuesday–Thursday

Here’s another reason OX Kitchen belongs in your weeknight dinner rotation:

Kids Eat Free Tuesday through Thursday from 4–8 PM.

Families receive one free kids meal with the purchase of each adult entrée.

That’s three weeknights to take dinner off your to-do list — particularly helpful during busy school weeks, sports seasons and those nights when nobody wants to cook.

Promotions and restrictions can change, so we always recommend confirming current Kids Eat Free details with the restaurant before visiting.

Plenty of Choices for Kids

The children’s menu goes beyond just one or two standard options.

Current choices include fried or grilled chicken, fried, grilled or blackened shrimp, grilled cheese and house-made mac & cheese. Fresh berries are available as well.

That variety is particularly nice for families with children who have very different tastes — one child can stick with grilled cheese or mac and cheese while a more adventurous eater can opt for shrimp or grilled chicken.

And This Isn’t Just a Place for the Kids

A family-friendly restaurant doesn’t have to mean sacrificing the food the adults actually want to eat.

OX Kitchen is perhaps best known for its burgers, including its signature OX Burger, but the menu goes well beyond burgers. You’ll find pecan-smoked wings, shrimp tacos, a house-smoked turkey sandwich, chicken sandwiches, gyros and more.

There are also several options for parents looking for something on the lighter side.

The current menu includes a Berry & Feta Salad, Chopped Southern Salad, Greek Salad and Southwest Power Bowl made with ingredients including quinoa, corn, black beans, avocado and toasted pumpkin seeds. Sides include berries and a side salad in addition to traditional choices like house fries and sweet potato fries.

OX Kitchen has also told MOB Moms that gluten-free and healthy options are available, making it easier for families with different dietary preferences to find something that works for them.

A Family Dinner Spot to Know in Fairhope

Between the food, casual atmosphere, outdoor space and Kids Eat Free nights, OX Kitchen checks a lot of the boxes we look for when helping families find somewhere to eat.

It’s casual enough for a weeknight dinner with the kids, but the menu still gives adults plenty to get excited about. And having an outdoor area where kids can be entertained is an added bonus for parents who’d like to enjoy their meal too.
