Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival
The Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival at OWA Parks & Resort benefits the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce. Named the 2021 Event of the Year by the Alabama Tourism Department, this all-ages hot air balloon festival is free-to-enter with a variety of activities and entertainment to keep your imagination soaring. The festival features daily live music and entertainment, arts and crafts displays, and balloon glows. This year’s event will feature 50 balloons with pilots from across the country! Catch the Balloon Glow (weather and wind permitting) daily beginning around dusk.

Make a Hat Workshop for Kids
This fun workshop begins with a visit to the Global Language of Headwear exhibition where we will learn about hats from all over the world. Afterwards, kids will make their own hats to take home. Attendees can take inspiration from the hats in the exhibition, or create a hat, headband, or crown from their own imagination using materials supplied by the museum. This workshop is suitable for ages 6-12. The cost is $10 per person, and parents are welcome to attend. Call Curator of Education, Jennifer Theeck, at 251-301-0270 for more information or to make a reservation.

May The Fourth is BACK!!! Join us as we celebrate the return of one of our favorite "holidays" here at the Exploreum. We will have special, space-themed activities scheduled through out the day for all ages. Costumes (family friendly) are encouraged as always. We will be showing our regular PCI Digital Dome movies throughout the day, then having a special showing of the Star Wars classic, A New Hope, that afternoon. Space is limited for that one time showing so guests will need to reserve their space upon arrival. First come, first served. No advanced ticket sales. General Admission for non-members. It’s time for the 44th annual Gulf Coast Regional Mustang & Mega Car Show presented by the Gulf Coast Regional Mustang Club! This dazzling car show will be held in Downtown OWA on Saturday, May 11th. Y'all are in for such a treat with this event! Bring your kiddos to come play in our fully fenced, secure area. They can feed the donkeys, see the turkey, pet the mini cows and sheep, hold a chicken, play in our sensory corn pit, swing in our tree swings, ride our mild, kid-friendly zip line, play in the bubbles, and play our outdoor games. In addition, Belle Balloon House is bringing extra entertainment at NO COST to you in the form of a fabulous bubble house and bounce house! Moms, the Magnolia Flower Truck will be here, so you can have your kids build a gorgeous bouquet for you (or spouse?) to buy and take home for Mother's Day - swoon! In addition, The Threaded Oyster permanent jewelry company will be here with a selection of stunning bracelets for purchase, and they'll size them and customize the perfect fit for you right here on site! We're thrilled to announce that Chasing the Son Photography will be on-site to capture your perfect family Mother's Day photos, as a gift to mom. She will also take candid photos if time allows. ***These photos will be released on her (or our) Facebook page once she has time to edit and upload them in the days following the event. Last but not least, Cups for a Cure will be here with a fabulous springtime lemonade menu to satisfy everyone in the family! As always, parking is first-come, first-served. We ask that you exercise EXTREME CAUTION approaching and leaving our property. There will be many children and parents and we want everyone to remain safe. It’s back! Finally! The stars and planets will be aligned for view for May 11th from dusk til 9:00pm. Come join the Mobile Astronomical Society in the courtyard to view the exceptional wonders of outer space through provided telescopes. If you want to bring your own telescope, they’ll even help set you up to view astronomical splendors. The Weber Family Players will also be there to provide beautiful music all on violins - everything from hymns to classical to contemporary music. Tips are highly encouraged! Jeremiah’s Italian Ice, the Italian Ice and Gelati shop that encourages everyone to Live Life to the Coolest, recently opened its doors in the Fairhope community. The Italian Ice and Gelati shop brings new career opportunities to the local job market where employees serve up delicious treats that let guests live life to the coolest. Jeremiah’s will be hosting a Grand Opening celebration the weekend of May 18-19. Stop by the Pepsi tent first to get your treasure map and the quest is on. Find the items on the map then return to where "X" marks the spot to collect your gold! For each Cap'n that completes the hunt, The Wharf will donate $5 to Alabama Credit Union's Secret Meals for Hungry Children program. Be sure to stick around to enjoy some tunes from DJ Matt and watch the nightly SPECTRA Laser Light Experience show to see Philippe "Stinky" Lafitte pillage, plunder and hide his haul of gold on the Gulf Coast.
