Join us at Meaher State Park for a fun and family friendly competition. We will be doing a scavenger hunt throughout the park while utilizing some of our senses to find the items. Nature can be appreciated in many ways. But, we sometimes forget to slow down and really see, smell, touch, and listen to the world around us. Are you amazed by amphibians? Flabbergasted by frogs? Or dare I say, terrified of toads.... Well then join us here at Meaher State Park to learn all about toads and frogs! We will be discussing the unique characteristics of amphibians before diving a little deeper into some of the individual species that we have present in the local environment. We will also learn how to identify some of these species and get to look at (but not touch!) a couple of live critters. Tales and Trails in the Gardens
A Literacy program of reading books and sharing activities. Designed for preschoolers and homeschoolers. Every Thursday morning at 10:30am the group will read a book at various locations in the Gardens. On rainy days the group will meet in the Larkins Classroom. They will compete for bragging rights for the Festival of Flowers People's Choice Award. Join us at Meaher State Park for a fun time birding! All birders with any level of experience are welcome to take part in this program. We will take a walk out on our boardwalk which is part of the Alabama Birding Trails System and hopefully see many different species. Awards and prizes will be given to the highest flying kite, longest kite in flight, biggest kite, most unique, best homemade kite and a special Mayor’s choice award! Kite competitions start at Noon. However, come early because Emerald Coast Kite Flyers Club will be filling the sky with some unique & acrobatic kites! The Miss Dauphin Island young ladies will be on site to help you tye-dye your own T-shirt ($20 minimum donation) and Matt Erdman will be performing live! Shaved Ice Paradise & La Taqueria Tacos will be on site selling some delicious food & desserts.
