The Mobile Botanical Gardens is happy to announce a multi-week program to answer those questions with a series of Saturday morning workshops for children, ages 8-12. Participants will explore what foods come from plants, what plants need to grow, and the work of farmers to bring good fruits and vegetables to our dining tables. From Dirt Day and Grocery Store Botany to harvest, young gardeners will plant and maintain their own raised bed ‘farms’ at MBG’s Magnolia Hill. A Fairhope Nutcracker This is the perfect event to kick off your holiday season, with a unique twist to the classical ballet. Journey with Clara as she frolics in downtown Fairhope with her family and friends. Uncle Drosselmeyer and his nephew arrive with magical gifts including a life size Ballerina Doll and Soldier Doll. Drosselmeyer gives Clara the special gift of a Nutcracker. As everyone goes home for the evening, a dance battle ensues between the Mouse Queen and the Nutcracker who has magically grown to life size. Clara saves her beloved Nutcracker and they begin their journey through the Mist of Mobile Bay. Act 2 begins with Angels guiding their way to the Land of the Sweets. Clara and the Nutcracker are greeted by the Sugarplum Fairy and sweets from far away lands. Beautiful azaleas waltz and swirl as Clara’s journey comes to an end. Join us at Meaher State Park as we learn some fascinating facts about the sensational snakes present in our environment. We will learn how to identify snakes and discuss some of their unique qualities before taking a stroll down one of our trails to spot some (fake) snakes. We will use this opportunity to discuss how snakes use camouflage to their advantage and learn more about the individual species.
