The South Alabama Veterans’ Council (SAVC) also announces the annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the National Cemetery at 1202 Virginia Street in Mobile.The brief ceremony begins at 8:30 AM Monday May 25, 2026.The public is cordially and enthusiastically invited to attend. The SAVC offers this ceremony as an appropriate memorial to our Veterans, but also as a reminder to all that it is only through the sacrifices of the men and women of our armed services that weare able to enjoy and preserve our rights and freedoms. Let's carry on this tradition and pass it on to our youth. These ideals of service andsacrifice are integral to patriotism and vital to the survival of our American way of life.Please bring your family and join us on Memorial Day to honor those who made liberty possible.Participants will be available for an interview. Save the date for May 30, when Children's & Women's Hospital hosts a Child Safety Day at the National Maritime Museum of the Gulf. Fun for the whole family, the event will include life jacket fittings and free life jackets for children who are present, while supplies last, thanks to a grant from the Gulf Coast RC&D Council. The museum will offer discounted admission for $5 during the event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The National Maritime Museum of the Gulf-A hands-on, family-friendly museum that brings the history and culture of the Gulf to life through interactive exhibits and real-world experiences.-Located downtown on the Mobile River, the museum explores how the Gulf shapes daily life along the coast — from shipping and trade to fishing, recreation, and protecting our environment.-More than just a museum, it's a place where people of all ages can connect with the Gulf, learn its stories, and discover why it matters to our community.
