Can you all believe that the Summer is almost over, and it is time for the kiddos to return to the schoolhouse?  The first day of school is Monday, August 11 so allow MPRD to usher you into a prosperous school year at our Back 2 School Bash! Make plans to join us at Mardi Gras Park on Saturday, August 9 from 10-2 for an exciting morning of community fun! Jam to the sounds of DJ Blaze, enjoy inflatables from South Alabama Inflatables, and hit a two-step to your favorite line dance tunes! We will also have installations from the Alabama National Guard, and WKRG News 5 will be present as our official news partner, so be sure to look for their tent as well!  And of course, no Back 2 School Bash is complete without free school supply giveaways!   August 2025 Class Sign Ups Start Friday August 1 Back to School “First Impressions” One-Hour Pop Up Class Sunday August 10 at my home, select one of three sessions: Session A: 12:30-1:30 Session B: 2:00-3:00 Session C: 3:30-4:30 Cost $60, eight students max per session. *This class focuses on meeting the teacher and new friends, including others at school, and how to be helpful at school and at home. Children will also bring home a gift to take to their teacher on the first day of school. Art of Conversation Two Day Weekend Workshop Saturday, August 23 & Sunday, August 24 at my home, select one of two sessions: Session A: Saturday 9-10:30 and Sunday 1:30-3:00, OR Session B: Saturday 11-12:30 and Sunday 3:30-5:00 Cost $125, eight girls max (grades 2-4) *This class focuses on how to carry a conversation, how to accept compliments, how to share the spotlight, how to use a social filter, and how to be a kind and inclusive friend. Braided River's Run Club meets every Thursday at 6 p.m.! This public run club is open to all levels and ability, including walkers, marathoners, kids and even dogs. You can choose from a 5K or 1-mile route, both of which take off from the taproom at 6 p.m. Join Downtown Runners United By Beer afterward in the taproom for raffles, camaraderie and ice-cold craft beer!
