In Mobile, of course! Celebrating its twelfth anniversary in July 2024, Find Waldo Local begins July 1st and ends on July 31st. Can you find where Waldo is hanging out this year? To join in the hide-and-seek fun, simply pick up a “Find Waldo Local in Mobile!” stamp card at The Haunted Book Shop located at 9 S Joachim St then search for Waldo at participating businesses around downtown Mobile. With each miniature Waldo they spot, searchers get their card stamped or signed by the participating shop. Eagle-eyed hunters can also look for Waldo’s special 2024 gold medal hidden inside our store! Make sure to turn in your stamp card to The Haunted Book Shop by July 31 because collecting store stamps or signatures at twenty or more businesses will entitle super-seekers entry into a grand-prize drawing for Waldo books and other prizes on August 3rd at 5pm. All participants are welcome to attend the celebration party to celebrate the icon known simply as WALDO. Pick up your stamp card today and HAPPY HUNTING!

Hands on History: Summer Pop In Programs!
History Museum of MobileBring a picnic lunch and join the History Museum of Mobile and Colonial Fort Condé for these fun summer activities and workshops designed for families! These programs are free for Museum Members. For non-members, the programs are included in the cost of regular admission tickets to the History Museum and Colonial Fort Condé. MARDI GRAS MASK WORKSHOP | Friday, June 14 | 10am—12pm | Location: History Museum of Mobile Classroom | Join a museum educator for a short, guided tour of the museum’s Mardi Gras exhibit to learn about the history of Mardi Gras in Mobile, and then make your very own Mardi Gras Mask in the museum classroom. For ages 5 and up. MAKE BUTTER THE COLONIAL WAY | Saturday, June 29 | 1pm—3pm | Location: Colonial Fort Condé | Stop by the Fort courtyard anytime between 1pm and 3pm to learn about the types of foods eaten during colonial times and then try making butter using an authentic colonial era butter churn and tools. For ages Pre-K and up. MUMMIFICATION WORKSHOP | Friday, July 12 | 10am—12pm | Location: History Museum of Mobile Classroom | Learn about ancient beliefs about the afterlife and the ancient Egyptian art of mummification. Participants will then use a similar process to mummify an 11-inch doll provided by the museum. Space in this workshop is limited to 30 kids. For ages 7 and up. QUILL PEN WRITING | Saturday, July 20 | 1pm—3pm | Location: Colonial Fort Condé | Stop by the Fort anytime between 1pm and 3pm to see a demonstration of how people wrote during the colonial era. Then learn to make your own quill pen from a large goose feather and practice writing with it. For ages 5 (with parent or guardian help) and up. MARBLED PAPER WORKSHOP | Friday, July 26 | 10am—12pm | Location: History Museum of Mobile Classroom | Until modern times beautiful, marbled paper was often used for the endpapers of books. Learn about the history of the decorative art of marbled paper and how it is made, and then try your hand at making your own marbled paper. Warning: Making marbled paper is addictive! For ages 7 and up. COLONIAL TOYS & GAMES | Saturday, August 3 | 1pm—3pm | Location: Colonial Fort Condé | Stop by the fort courtyard anytime between 1 pm and 3pm to learn about colonial era toys, tabletop games, and lawn games, then make your own whirligig toy.
