Lifeguard Service for Private Pool Parties in Mobile, AL

With warmer weather and no school, the pool parties are in full swing. They will continue to be popular for several months as we Alabamians try to beat the heat. Whether it is for a birthday, July 4th, or just a get together, pools are a great way to keep the kids busy outside. However, have you ever not attended a pool party because you felt uncomfortable or unsafe about the kids being in the water?

The Danger

According to the American Red Cross, ten people drown each day. On average, 2 of those ten are under the age of 14. Even if your kids are great swimmers or wear some type of flotation device, the water is a dangerous place. Accidents happen so quickly! Pool parties can be stressful for parents if they are unsure what type of safety measures will be in place. We were thrilled when we came across a post on social media about a certified lifeguard offering services for private pool parties locally (Mobile, AL)! This added safety feature would definitely make us as moms feel a little more at ease about bringing our kids to someone else’s pool. If this service is something you or someone you know would be interested in, please keep reading for more information. Learn about what type of safety a lifeguard provides and how you can book services! Feel free to share this post with anyone you know with a pool as well!

The Lifeguard

Addison Brock is a local certified lifeguard with a strong passion for swim in general. Her mother Jessica posted on Facebook about her interest in working private pool parties and it got shared over 200 times, proving that a lot of people also thought it was a great idea for added water safety. She is a Mobile native that has excelled in swim and still actively participates in multiple areas of the sport.

The Credentials

We reached out to Addison to ask about her background in swim and to understand more about her lifeguard certification. It is quite extensive and impressive. She began swim at 5 years old with the West Mobile Swim Club and has been involved with the water ever since, which means for the past 10 years, she has been training in swim. After learning basic swim lessons, like freestyle, she aged out of beginner classes and began learning other strokes. Eventually, she started racing for City of Mobile Swim Association during the school year and West Mobile Swim Club during the summers. Addison was swimming year round! She knew she wanted to work for WMSC as she got older and was drawn to lifeguarding because she wanted to help others feel safe and enjoy the place she loved so much.

Lifeguard training sounds absolutely grueling! Her in person certification class was a total of 22 hours, with another 6 hours of online modules. Each trainee had to save each other multiple times in many different drowning scenarios. She had to play victim, as well as, hero, which was her least favorite part. Addison stated that part of being a successful lifeguard meant you have to be strong, mentally and physically. Lifeguard training teaches you how to respond to a number of different medical situations, not only drowning victims. This includes CPR/AED utilization and unique situations, such as spine injuries. She completed a 50 question written test and a timed extraction/assessment for her final exam. Addison had the fastest extraction/assessment time in her class!

Needless to say, she is very qualified for the job and works at the swim club. So, how did she start working private pool parties? Her mom’s friend was throwing a Kindergarten graduation pool party. The friend knew Addison’s background and personally reached out to hire her for the party, which led to several more requests. They saw this as an opportunity to provide a much needed service to the community.

The Rates and Availability

Addison covers the West Mobile area when she is not busy with the club and her other athletic responsibilities. Her rates are $15 per hour during the week or $20 per hour for weekend parties. At this rate we would not hesitate to have the extra layer of safety! You may contact her for availability inquiries at JessicaBrockCRNP@yahoo.com.

If she is not available she strongly encourages calling your local swim club, water park, or YMCA and inquire about lifeguard availability. We would love to hear from any other lifeguards that are local and interested in this opportunity. Please feel free to email us at info@themobmom.com.
