1. History Museum of Mobile


Established in a historical building constructed in the 1850s as the city’s main marketplace, the History Museum of Mobile is nowadays one of the most important tourist attractions in the region, featuring a series of permanent exhibitions on the history of Mobile since its foundation in the early 18th century. Located at 111 S Royal Street, this museum sits in the heart of the city center and can be visited as part of a walking tour around the area.

Open to the public Monday through Saturday between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, and Sundays between 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm, the History Museum of Mobile is a great place to start exploring the city with some background on the most important historical events that have shaped the area. Tickets can be bought at the entrance and guided tours are available.

2. Mobile Carnival Museum


The Mardi Gras celebration that takes place every year in Mobile is the oldest official Carnival celebration in the entire country and has become one of the symbols of the city. Started by a French immigrant in the early 18th century, this celebration takes over the streets of Mobile every year with parades, floats, dancers, and performers. If you want to learn more about the history of this tradition, the Mobile Carnival Museum is the place to be.

Also located in the heart of the city center at 355 Government Street, the Mobile Carnival Museum opened its doors to the public in 2005 and features 14 gallery rooms, a theater, a gift shop, and a pictorial hallway that portrays the history and traditions of the carnival. Guided tours are offered by local experts and can be booked in advance.

3. GulfQuest National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico


A large interactive museum showing the maritime history of the Gulf of Mexico, the GulfQuest National Maritime Museum is another fantastic spot you should visit while exploring Mobile with your friends or family. Established in 2015, this complex is located at 155 Water Street and features plenty of hands-on exhibits, simulators, and interactive displays.
